This Banana Bars are one of my favorite desserts, actually I didn’t knew this until last week when I tried them for the first time but they are sooo good that without lots of testing they won a spot on my top 10.
Being in my top 10 means that the recipe is:
1. Versatile
2. EASY, yes in capitals because it has to be extremly easy,
3. Quick, and this is actually like the most important thing to me because I get bored easily and really hate the fact that washing dishes take a large chunk of my day.
4. Use things that I already have in my fridge or pantry (bonus pints if said thing is about to expire) and
5. Be delicious and leave everyone saying “Oh my God this is so delicious I can’t believe you actually made it!”
As you see I have a bunch of requisites, well this baby here meets every little point that I have and looking flawless while doing it, I tell you my friends this cake is a keeper.
Actually, if you are only going to make one cake in your entire life you NEED to make this one (unless you hate bananas because well this are banana bars).
So first they are super versatile, they go great with vanilla frosting, or chocolate ganache, or a big dollop of Nutella, of just alone, or toasted with a scoop of ice cream or covered with peanut butter.
What I mean is that it’s the perfect canvas for your favorite toppings but at the same time is not so simple that is booring to eat by themself.
Also, you only need one bowl, a spatula and whatever pan you have on hand to make it, which means less time washing dishes (you can’t see me right now but I’m actually dancing a bit) and best of all, you can use that lost banana that is sitting in the back of your fridge all sad and ugly.
And yes, they are so delicious too, soft but a bit dense and with a deep banana flavor that makes them awesome.
So, enough about the bars, lets actually make them.
Also, I used this vanilla buttercream to decorate them
- 1 1/4 Cup flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 Mashed bananas
- 1/4 Cup oil
- 1 Egg (you can ommit it if you prefer)
- 1/2 Cup sugar
- 1/4 Cup water
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, Grease and flour a square cake pan.
- In a bowl mix the bananas, oil, sigar, egg and water until there are no lumps left.
- Add the flour and the baking soda and continue mixing until everything is well incorporated and the batter is shinny.
- Pour it on the cake pan and place in the oven for 30 minutes or until done
- Remove from the oven and let it cool.
- Decorate
