Truth is, cooking is messy. Yes, I try to make as many one bowl desserts as I can, and if you have been a reader of this blog for a while, then you know I really do my best to keep baking on the cleaner side of the spectrum (think fewer dishes, utensils, and pans).
But on the other side messy is fun, you know like when you are baking a huge batch of brownies and you just want to get everything full of chocolate, hands and face included, or when you think you have everything under control and then turn on the mixer to get everything dusted by flour and hear your husband laughing uncontrollably behind you. Or when the day is rainy and you gather the little ones around the table to cook a batch of cookies and the table ends up looking like a sugary mess, a happy sugary mess.
So, while the getting messy part is fun and full of laughs, the cleaning part? Well not so much. At least, that’s what I thought before discovering Windex® brand products at the Home Cleaning section at Walmart (seriously guys it’s so easy to find on the shelves!) a couple of months ago.
If you are like me and the thought of making a mess scares you (or bores you to death) then keep reading for my top tips to get a kitchen from messy to sparkling clean in no time!
How to clean your kitchen in no time:
- Reduce the messiness factor: Ok, ok, this is something you actually do before the mess but it’s totally worth it. Plan your recipes around the less amount of dishes you need, try to focus on what you are making to prevent spillages, and reuse bowls and utensils. For example, I whip up frosting first, place it in a piping bag and then use the same bowl and mixer (without washing it!) to whip up my cupcakes.
- Clean your kitchen as you go: Seriously, hear me on this one. There’s nothing worse than having a sink full of dishes and a counter full of flour and sugar. Skip the overwhelm by cleaning everything as you go. Oh, that butter spillage on your marble counter? Wipe it out with a washcloth and some Windex® Original Glass Cleaner and you are all set.
- Clean your kitchen before everything sets: This is a tip my mom used to give all the time. Did I listen to her? Not as much as I should, but it really reduces the amount of time if instead of waiting for the mess to set, you attack it while it’s fresh. You don’t need to scrub it out which will result in less time spent cleaning and more time spent eating your delicious creation.
- Keep an allpurpose cleaner close: Like at all times. Seriously saying that I fell head over heels in love with Windex® Original Glass Cleaner is an understatement. It has been a life changer for my cleaning schedule and it has made the after bake process a breeze. And can we talk about the fact that’s small kitchen appropriate? My kitchen has the size of a NYC closet (read tiny) so the space for storing cleaning supplies (or anything for that matter) is practically nonexistent. The fact that I only need to keep Windex® Original Glass Cleaner for most surfaces at my home (yep, including mirrors, glass, and electronics!!) is just perfect and makes my small kitchen heart sing with joy.
