There’s something about this season that makes me want to make everything pastel. From wearing the colors to baking with them to going to flower fields. I just can’t control it. So when I found lavender extract I knew it was the moment to make it on a lavender frosting, and oh my gosh guys you need to make this at home.
First, lavender frosting it’s one of the prettiest things you can possibly think of. If you are like me and you like to Instagram our treats, well trust me that this is going to get you all the likes. Second:
lavender frosting tastes heavenly, it’s delicate, not overpowering at all and in my opinion has just the perfect amount of sweetness you crave on a hot day.
And the most important part about lavender frosting, it pairs perfectly well with almost anything you can think of. It relly elevates any homemade treat to the next level, the “I just bought this at the fanciest bakery in town” level. I especially love the lavender frosting it with vanilla cupcakes (recipe cooming soon!), but it has the perfect hold to make cookie sandwiches and to decorate a layer cake. While I prefer it with vanilla treats I have also made it with these lemon cookies and the result was out of this world good and literally everyone asked for the recipe. Another great idea is to pair it with chocolate treats and add a small drizzle of salted caramel to blend in together all the flavors.
I used my vanilla frosting recipe as the base and then just made small tweaks along the way to make it in lavender. The min 2 were substituting the vanilla extract for lavender extract and adding 2 drops of red food coloring and 1 drop of blue food coloring to achieve that pastel purple color. You can read my tips and tricks to make it super fluffy, ligh and airy here.
- ½ Cup butter
- 2 Cups confectioners sugar
- 1 teaspoon lavender extract (the baking variety)

- 1 Drop blue food coloring
- Place the cold butter in a bowl and whip it for 2 minutes with the mixer on medium speed.
- Add the lavender and food coloring and continue mixing for another minute.
- Slowly add the confectioners sugar and continue mixing for 3 minutes or until light and fluffy, stopping to scrape the sides on the bowl.
