Looking for the best sugar free syrup for pancakes and waffles? In this post we review all the best options including keto and low carb syrups!

There’s nothing as delicious as a good drizzle of maple syrup over a stack of pancakes. Or some chocolate syrup drizzled over some fresh waffles. However we all know that the traditional syrup that can be purchased at supermarkets is full of weird additions, corn syrup and packs way more sugar than you should eat for breakfast.

However, just because you are following a sugar-free diet, a ketogenic diet, want to eat low carb or are just looking for some healthier options doesn’t mean you need to kiss your pancake syrup goodbye.

There are a ton (and I mean A TON) of sugar-free syrup options! So we decided to round them up. This list includes all the best you’ll find, including options that are perfect for diabetics and even option for those on a keto diet.

What to check when picking a sugar-free maple syrup

Before jumping in on the list with all the best sugar-free maple syrup options I would like to share with you what to check when you are purchasing one.

Not all sugar free syrups are created equal so it’s always good to check the nutritional information and ingredients to make sure they work for your diet and lifestyle.

Natural flavors

Most maple syrups are flavored with artificial flavoring. However, in my experience those that are flavored with it don’t taste as good as the ones that are flavored with natural flavoring.

You can read the ingredients label and look for natural maple syrup extract or natural flavor. Both of those things are the best flavoring agents.

Sweetener

The best thing (and probably the main characteristic) of maple syrup is that it’s sweet so the sweetener plays a large roll in the overall flavor of the syrup.

Not only that but the type of sweetener can also affect how your body processes it and digests it. This is specially important if you are following a specific diet and can’t have certain sweeteners.

When it comes to sweeteners used for syrups you’ll find 3 main categories.

  • Natural sweeteners: Monk fruit sweetener and stevia are the most popular sugar free natural sweeteners. They are calorie free and sugar free and also work for keto diets and paleo diets. They have a light aftertaste.
  • Sugar alcohols: These are erythritol, xylitol, and sorbitol. They are great for those following a low carb diet since they have zero carbs.
  • Artificial sweeteners: These are the OG sugar free sweeteners so you can find them on most sugar free maple syrups. The most common artificial sweeteners are aspartame and sucralose.

Organic

When possible look for an organic brand or one that uses mostly organic ingredients.

Lakanto Sugar Free Maple Syrup – The best keto maple syrup

This is one of the most popular sugar free syrup brands and with reason, it’s incredibly delicious! I honestly feel it’s the most similar to real maple syrup.

  • Sweetener: Monk fruit extract and erythritol
  • Keto friendly: Yes

I may be biased because I love this brand so this syrup is a personal favorite. They not only have syrups but also some cooking and baking sweeteners that I love. It has all the flavor of real maple syrup but without spiking your glycemic index.

Since it’s sweetened with monk fruit extract an erythritol it’s keto friendly but it also works great for diabetics and those looking for a lower calorie alternative.

Wholesome Yum Maple Syrup

Looking for keto-friendly syrups? Then you need to try this one made by wholesome yum.

  • Sweetener: Allulose and Monk fruit extract
  • Keto friendly: Yes

This brand has a smell and flavor incredibly similar to traditional pancake syrups. It’s low carb, gluten free, paleo, vegan and diabetic friendly so it’s perfect for pretty much everyone. It also has an incredibly clean label with almost all natural ingredients.

If you have trouble digesting sugar alcohols of if they upset your stomach then this is he best option for you since it’s sugar alcohol free. It also wont spike your blood sugar levels since it has a low glycemic index.

Pyure Organic Maple Flavored Syrup

Pyure is another popular brand that creates sugar-free alternatives for our all time favorites.

  • Sweetener: Erythritol and stevia leaf extract
  • Keto friendly: Yes

The other great thing about this sugar free maple syrup is that’s organic and it’s flavored with natural flavorings. It has the texture of regular syrup which is also incredibly good. Thick consistency, delicious flavor, and fewer calories I mean what else can we ask for right?

It also has no artificial sweeteners and no high fructose corn syrup so honestly a great ingredient list.

They are also gluten free so they are honestly really really good. You can serve it with some french toast or with keto pancakes and feel like if you are eating the real deal. It’s that good.

Choc Zero Sugar Free Maple Syrup

This syrup is as thick and rich as a keto pancake syrup can get. It has a deep caramel color and it’s sweetened with monk fruit extract and flavored with natural maple flavor making it a great low carb syrup and natural alternative.

Choc Zero maple syrup is not the syrup with the lowest calories but it has one of the most “clean” labels and uses almost only all natural ingredients. It has no added preservatives and it’s GMO free. They also don’t use water to dilute the syrup so the texture is as thick as it can be.

The only downside I think this brand has is the flavor. You can definitely taste a bit of the monk fruit sweeteners. I don’t mind it all but the lightly fruity flavor it’s there. However, if you are used to how monk fruit taste then this is a great option to get!

The other great thing about this brand? They not only have maple syrup but also have some delicious flavored syrups too!

  • Sugar free chocolate syrup
  • Sugar free vanilla syrup
  • Sugar free strawberry syrup
  • Sugar free caramel syrup

All of them are keto and have the same clean labels as the maple one so they are a great way to add some variety to your breakfast menu. I honestly love to have the caramel syrup with coffee to create a decadent drink and love the chocolate syrup with keto french toasts on the weekends when I’m looking for something more indulgent.

All-u-lose Maple Flavored Allulose Syrup

If you are looking for no calories and no cars then this is your syrup.

  • Sweetener: Allulose
  • Keto friendly: Yes

It’s made with all natural maple extract as a flavoring and with allulose as the main ingredient. It’s gluten free, GMO free, diabetic and paleo friendly.

The texture is slightly thinner than other sugar free options but the flavor it’s very similar to pure maple syrup. I love it with things like pancakes (honestly my favorite food ever!) and also use it to make salad dressings.

Mrs. Butterworth’s Sugar Free Syrup

I feel like we all grew up with this brand at home and turns out they also have a sugar free version of their regular maple syrup.

  • Calories per serving: 20 calories
  • Sweetener: Sorbitol, aspartame, acesulfame potassium
  • Keto friendly: It depends. Works for a dirty keto but if you are following a clean keto there are better alternatives. Aspartame, acesulfame k and sorbitol are not sweeteners you can have on a clean keto. It also contains corn syrup in trivial amounts but it’s still there.

The really good thing about this brand is not their ingredients list (there are other options with natural ingredients after all) but the fact that you can find it almost everywhere, including your local grocery store, and how it doesn’t have any distinct sweetener flavor.

I honestly feel this is the type of sugar free syrup you would give someone that’s not used to following a sugar free diet (yet) and that just wants something that’s as close to traditional maple syrup as possible.

Overall it’s a perfect choice if you are looking for a maple syrup substitute that tastes like maple syrup.

Blackberry Patch Sugar Free Maple Syrup

What I love the most about this brand is that their syrups are made in small batches and the fact that they are kind of a small business.

  • Calories per serving: 90 calories
  • Sweetener: Maltitol
  • Keto friendly: Yes

Blackberry Patch Praline Maple Syrup is delicious. I don’t consider it a diet food because it has a high calorie content (not the best if you are checking your calorie intake) however the ingredients are incredibly clean: maltitol, natural praline flavor, natural maple flavor, natural butter flavor and caramel color and that’s it.

They not only offer syrup but have a lot of 3 ingredients toppings, syrups and salsas. so if you are looking for a sugar-free pancake syrup with minimal ingredients and all natural label with no artificial ingredients this is a good option.

Maple Grove Farms Vermont Sugar Free Syrup

Maple Grove Farms is just like Mrs. Butterworth. It’s one of those traditional brands that branched out with a sugar free option for those that are minding their sugar intake.

  • Sweetener: Sorbitol
  • Keto friendly: If you are following a dirty keto it works. However sorbitol is not a sweetener approved for those following a clean keto.

This syrup tastes like real maple syrup. However I’m honestly not a huge fan of the ingredients list. It has artificial flavors and a rather long list of ingredients.

But the sweet taste is amazing so if you are looking for a sugar free syrup that tastes like the real thing and don’t really care about the ingredients this is a great option to have on hand.
