What do eggs do in brownies?

Eggs play several important roles in brownies. First of all, they add structure and body to the finished dessert.

This is especially important in recipes that use oil instead of butter, as oil can make brownies dense and heavy.

Eggs also help bind the ingredients together, and they add moisture to the mix – which is why brownies made with eggs are often more moist and fudgy than those made without.

Finally, eggs add richness and depth of flavor to brownies.

So what can you use instead of eggs in brownies?

Depending on the texture and flavor you’re going for, there are a few different options.

The egg substitutes in brownie recipes

There are a number of egg substitutes that can be used when making brownies.

These include using fruit purees, such as mashed banana or applesauce; using yogurt or sour cream; using flaxseed meal or chia seeds soaked in water; or commercial egg replacers.

These ingredients will work to some extent in creating brownies moist and delicious, so experiment to see which you prefer.

You may also need to adjust to the other ingredients in your recipe, such as reducing the amount of sugar if you are using a fruit puree or yogurt in place of eggs.

Fruit purees, such as mashed bananas or unsweetened applesauce

Using fruit purees, such as mashed bananas or applesauce, in place of eggs is a popular way to make brownies without using them.

While the texture of the brownies may be slightly different, the flavor will be very similar.

If you are looking for a way to make brownies without using eggs, give this method a try!

Yogurt or sour cream

Using yogurt or sour cream in brownies is a great way to get the same delicious flavor and texture without using eggs.

These ingredients will add moisture and richness to your brownies, so they’ll be just as good as traditional recipes.

Just be sure to use full-fat yogurt or sour cream, as reduced-fat varieties won’t work as well in this application.

Flaxseed meal or chia seeds soaked in water

Using flaxseed meal or chia seeds soaked in water can help to create a similar binding effect as eggs do in baking.

This means that you can make brownies without using any eggs!

To make brownies without eggs, combine one tablespoon of chia seeds or flaxseed meal with three tablespoons of water.

Let the mixture sit for a few minutes to thicken, then add it to your brownie batter in place of the eggs.

You may need to bake your brownies for a minute or two longer than the recipe specifies. They should turn out just as delicious as the original version.

Commercial egg substitute

This product is usually made from a combination of starches and leavening agents. It can be found in most supermarkets.

To use an egg replacer, you’ll need to follow the instructions on the package. In most cases, you’ll add the egg replacer to your dry ingredients, then add water or another liquid to wet the mixture.

Once everything is combined, you can proceed with the recipe as usual.

Baking soda

If egg is used as a leavening agent, use 1/4 cup of vegetable oil mixed with 1 teaspoon of baking powder per egg called for in the recipe.

Remember that brownies made without eggs may not rise as much as traditional brownies and may be denser. However, they’ll still be delicious – so don’t be afraid to give them a try!

So, next time you’re in the mood for some chocolatey goodness, don’t let a lack of eggs stop you from indulging.

Tips for making the perfect brownies without eggs or vegan

While eggs are often used as a binding agent in baked goods, plenty of other ingredients can do the same function.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of our top tips for making vegan or egg-free brownies that are every bit as delicious as the traditional version.

1. Use a binding agent: In order to help your brownie mixture hold together, be sure to use a binding agent such as ground flaxseed or chia seeds. Simply mix a few tablespoons of your chosen binding agent with water and let it sit for a few minutes to thicken. Once thickened, add it to your brownie mixture and stir well.

2. Use applesauce or mashed banana: Another great way to bind your brownie ingredients together and replace eggs is to use fruit purees such as applesauce or mashed banana.

Simply add the same amount of puree as you would egg and mix well.

3. Add a little bit of baking soda: Baking soda is another ingredient that can help your brownies to rise and hold together. Simply add a teaspoon or two to your dry ingredients and mix well.

4. Be careful not to overcook: One common mistake when baking brownies is overcooking them. This will result in dry, crumbly brownies that are not fun to eat. To avoid this, check your brownies a few minutes before the suggested cooking time. If they seem dry or crumbly, remove them from the oven immediately.

With these tips in mind, you’re well on your way to creating vegan or egg-free brownies that are sure to please. Enjoy!
