Cauliflower has a fantastic taste and various valuable ingredients such as Vitamin C, Folate, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Manganese, Magnesium, and Phosphorus.

Let’s look at the steps to freeze this flower-shaped vegetable:

Step 1: Use Fresh Cauliflower

The most important step when it comes to freezing cauliflower is to buy fresh produce. It is easy to tell the difference between fresh and old cauliflower: Do not buy if it doesn’t smell good or brown-colored spots are present. Normally, the cauliflower has an almost white color with green leaves.

Step 2: Washing and Cutting

If you take a closer look, you will realize that the cauliflower is actually a big flower. Use a knife to cut small pieces of the vegetable. You can start by cutting the stem and the leaves from the edible part, which are the florets. Then, you can cut down the florets into the desired size and shape.

Once you have the cauliflower reduced to small pieces, you can rinse it under fresh water and then let it dry. Another option for drying the cauliflower is to use a paper towel.

Step 3: Boiling and Cooling

To ensure that the cauliflower stays fresh and edible for a long time, we need to perform a process called blanching.

Boil some water in a saucepan and heat it until the water’s boiling point is reached. Now add the cauliflower pieces to it and let it boil for around 2 minutes. Remember not to let the florets in the boiling water for too long as they may get cooked.

Now, take out the florets from the boiling water and transfer them to cold water. You can add ice to the water or take cold water from the refrigerator. Once again, we are going to leave the florets in cold water for around 2 minutes.

Drain any cold water from the florets and dry them once again with a paper towel.

Step 4: Freezing Process

Finally, we have reached the stage of freezing the cauliflower. You can use a sheet of wax paper and place the vegetable pieces in a single layer. Freeze it for around 2-3 hours.

Once the single layer of florets is frozen, you can transfer all of them to a freezer bag and put the bag in the freezer.
