Malted Chocolate Frosting

If you have been a reader around here for a while then you probably already know that I have a soft spot for frosting.

Seriously, I pretty much believe that everything frosted is better, everything.

But for the sake of keeping things simple around here, I always stick to a couple of tried and true frosting, like vanilla frosting, and the vegan strawberry frosting.

I realized that you guys like all of them! Even the different ones like the lavender frosting and the crazy ones like the Frappuccino Frosting so well I decided to try my hand at making Malted Chocolate Frosting and the result is MIND BLOWING.

Malted Chocolate Frosting

I’m a huge crazy fan of malted chocolate, actually, when I was a kid I used to buy this malted chocolate spread and eat it with a spoon while watching TV, it was gross and awesome at the same time.

This frosting on the other side? It’s just awesome and delicious, and while you can eat it with a spoon straight out of the bowl it’s even better when topping cupcakes, cakes and even between 2 cookies.

How to make Malted Chocolate Frosting

To make it malted I added melted chocolate and malt milk powder. The result is this fudgy, melt in your mouth, chocolate explosion kind of frosting that’s so good everyone will ask for the recipe.

You can purchase the malted milk powder at most supermarkets and while I usually share substitutions for my recipes this one can’t be replaced.

You seriously need it in order to get that explosion of flavor.

Since we are already adding melted chocolate we can use a little bit less of sugar than what traditional frostings call for.

The reason? once the chocolate hardens a bit (and it happens quickly) the frosting gets a lot more of texture and since you are using less sugar the malted chocolate frosting is not overpowering sweet.
