Does sonic have vegan options

Yes, while Sonic is definitely not the vegan mecca there are a couple drinks, sides, sauces and meals you can have there as a vegan.

Sonic fries are vegan

The best part about Sonic is that the fries are always vegan. Their fries are perfectly salted and crunchy and honestly make the best snack ever.

Just keep in mind most items share he same fryer so there’s a cross contamination risk that you want to be aware of.

If that’s not an issue for you then pick their fries next time you are craving some fast food fries.

Soft pretzel twists

Soft pretzels. Do I need to say more? I mean soft pretzels are delicious ALWAYS. Think of a soft, brioche like bread that’s topped with large salt flakes and served with a sauce of choice.

They are honestly so good you don’t even need to dip them into any sauce.

They come with a side of melty cheese sauce (served in a cup on the side) but you can ask to change it for any of their vegan friendly dipping sauces, like their mustard or marinara for example.

Tater tots

Another vegan-friendly side at Sonic are their tater tots. Tater tots are deep fried potato bites that are naturally vegan. They come with a choice of dipping sauce, just like the pretzels do!

Just like their fries they are fried on the same fryer/oil as many of their regular and meat options so that’s something important to keep on mind.

Onion rings

If you are craving something a little bit more filling than fries or tatter tots, onion rigs is where it’s at.

They also share the same oil (pretty much anything deep fried from this fast food chain does) but if that’s okay with you these onion rings are incredibly delicious.

Slightly sweet onion coated in a crispy breaded crust they are so so good you don’t need any extra dipping sauce.

Vegan Sonic sauces and condiments

One of the best things at Sonic are their delicious condiment packets. Thankfully there are a lot of vegan and plant based options perfect for any diet.

These are the vegan Sonic dipping sauces

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Marinara
  • BBQ sauce
  • Sweet and sour sauce
  • Sweet relish
  • Strawberry jam and grape jelly are both vegan too and served with some breakfast menu items

Create your own sandwich

The biggest downside of going to Sonic as a vegan is realizing they don’t have a plant based burger yet.

However, you can customize everything to build your own meal. Sonic employees are really used to customizations and it’s one of the strong selling points of the restaurant chain so you can feel comfortable to play with their options and create something that works for your dietary preferences.

Sonic’s vegan bread:

Sonic has an array of bread options to pick from. Most of them are vegan but something contain egg or milk depending to locations. To be sure it’s always better to ask them to confirm if they are dairy free and egg free.

  • Bagel
  • Hamburger bun
  • Philly roll
  • Tortilla
  • Hot dog bun
  • Poppy seed bun
  • Ciabatta

Sonic’s vegan toppings:

  • Tomato
  • Sweet pickle relish
  • Sauerkraut
  • Diced onions
  • Dill pickle chips
  • Dill pickle spears
  • Green chilies
  • Lettuce
  • Jalapeños
  • Grilled green and red bell peppers
  • Grilled onions

So you can ask or any of their bread filled with a complete combination of veggie toppings and adding a couple of sauces to the mix.

Customizing your sides to be vegan

You can also customize their sides to make them more filling and feel like a “complete” meal if you decide to skip the make your own sandwich approach.

For example you can order your french fries topped with tomato, jalapeños, diced onions and sauces and have your very own fry nachos.

Sonic Santa Fe Salad

Some select Sonic locations also have salad options. While most of their salads are a combination of cheese and chicken (and end up being only lettuce if you remove those) their santa fe salad can be customized to be vegan.

If you remove all the animal derived options you end up with a salad made with iceberg lettuce, carrots, grape tomatoes, red cabbage, black beans, corn fiesta mix and an onion ring. Add your favorite dipping sauce and you are all set.

What drinks at Sonic are vegan

Sonic has a wide selection of drinks, many of them are seasonal so they change frequently.

However, there are plenty of vegan options to pick from. These are the vegan drink options you can find at Sonic:

Fountain drinks (sodas)

  • Coca-Cola
  • Coca-Cola Zero
  • Diet Coke
  • Sprite
  • Sprite Zero
  • Dr. Pepper
  • Diet Dr. Pepper
  • Fanta
  • Sonic wave bottled water
  • Hi-C Fruit punch
  • Mello Yello
  • Minute maid lemonade
  • Minute maid orange juice
  • Green tea
  • Minute maid apple juice
  • Green tea diet
  • Fresh brewed sweet tea
  • Fresh brewed unsweetened tea

Slushes and frozen drinks:

  • Frozen lemonade
  • Frozen limeade
  • Plain slush base
  • Ocean water
  • Signature limeades: Including the cherry limeade
  • All natural lemonades

Yes! All the popular slush options are vegan! Honestly Sonic’s drinks are incredibly popular so I’m stoked they are vegan friendly.

The only slushies that aren’t vegan friendly are the ones that have candies or caramel in it like their M&M slush for example.

Syrups

One of the most fun thing about ordering drinks from Sonic is being able to customize them with their fun fruit flavored syrups.

The vegan Sonic syrups are:

  • Cherry
  • Cranberry
  • Watermelon
  • Grape
  • Orange
  • Blue coconut
  • Green apple
  • Blue raspberry
  • POWERADE
  • Diet cherry
  • Peach
  • Raspberry
  • Blackberry
  • Mango

They also serve Green Mountain black coffee which is also vegan.

Does sonic have a vegan burger

Not yet, Sonic doesn’t offer vegan or plant based burgers in their menu. Hoping that might change in the near future with more people than ever choosing a plant based diet.

Is the pretzel at sonic vegan

Yes! The soft pretzels twists at Sonic are vegan since they’re topped only with salt and served with a sauce on the side.

Can you have a vegan breakfast at Sonic Drive In?

Yes! Sonic Drive In serves breakfast everyday so you can also enjoy a vegan and plant based breakfast in this fast food restaurant.

You an get a vegan burrito, just ask for a tortilla with all your favorite vegan toppings (like grilled onions and peppers, tomato and lettuce), your choice of sauce and add a large orange juice and coffee as drinks.

You can also get a salad with your choice of vegan dressing in it.
